In an Asset Encounter, the NPC who appears will grant you an item or opportunity that can enhance your gameplay experience.
Oil Zone Otto is a friendly guy who just wants to keep his business afloat. If you take the time to get to know him, you'll quickly find he's loyal, honest, and hard-working.
For some reason, Century Train Parts keep appearing in his Oil Zone. He's gonna try to sell them to you, but he'll cut you a good deal.
If you purchase a CTP directly from an Otto encounter, you'll be able to buy it at a discounted price. Or, if you decline to buy the part during the encounter, you can still buy it from the Marketplace. The Otto discount will last for 10 minutes after an encounter. After that, you'll have to pay full price.
We don't really know where Transporter Thomas came from. He just showed up one day and decided we were fwends... I mean friends. He's sort of a mischievous guy, but he's got a heart of gold and just wants to help people.
If he shows up, it's because he knows a Passenger in need of a ride. And since you've got wheels, he's gonna send them with you whether you've got room for them or not!
Now here's an interesting figure. The Stranger is, well... Strange, for lack of a better word. But all the best people are, no? This is a man who keeps his cards close to his chest until he's forced to play his hand. Even if you aren't sure what he's up to, it's probably a good idea to just go along with what he tells you.
When the Stranger approaches you, he's probably going to say something mysterious before handing you a Century Vial. Then he'll disappear. Where does he go to when he runs off like that?
Are you still working on building up your resources, expanding your trains, and learning how to rule the rails? You might just find yourself crossing paths with the infamous Commodity Culprit.
When you complete a rail run with four or fewer rail cars equipped on a train, you'll run the chance of triggering an encounter with this NPC. He might be a little insufferable... And he's definitely going to say something condescending about your train. But, hey! He'll also give you a free Commodity!
Let's face it: Your train is gonna get worn down at some point. You could stay ahead of the wear and tear by keeping up to date with Locomotive repairs... Or you could put it off and hope this friendly face makes an appearance!
After completing a rail run, if your Locomotive's condition is less than 50%, you'll have the chance to trigger an encounter with the Century Mechanic. He'll restore your Locomotive to 100% condition in no time. Be sure to thank him, if you ever see him!
