In 2018, Marisol Martinez quit her job as an astronomer at the Amberly Observatory to pursue her life-long dream: She opened a health spa. And not just any health spa—she opened the very first Cosmea Wellness Center. Martinez opened her first spa in Trevithick Pines to cater to her fellow scientists who she saw were, "over-stressed, over-worked, and under-happy." After finding wild success in the first year of operation, Cosmea expanded to seven locations between 2019 and 2021, with three in the Pines, one in Centuryville, and two in Pemberton Heights.

Ever the entrepreneur, Ms. Martinez recently announced the Comsea Expansion Initiative, intending diversify the Cosmea brand with the launch of the Cosmea Wellness clothing line and the publication of her autobiography. As the brand continues to grow, more and more critics are beginning to label Cosmea a "new-age cult," a label Martinez takes in stride. "Of course we're not a cult," she says, "but as they say, there's no such thing as bad press."
